Calvin talks about knowing God as creator and God as redeemer in the Institutes. Natural law is knowing God as creator and, like you said, reason can only get you so far. Knowing God as redeemer requires the enlightening of the Holy Spirit. Nature is the baseline and Grace elevates and perfects the human nature we are given being made in the image of God.
Also one other note. It's important to emphasize that the different types of knowledge (knowing), are still about the SAME GOD. Natural law is God's law because God is creator of all things. It is not an artefact of the human mind.
